French health insurance contributions outpace benefit increases

In 2024, health insurance contributions in France grew at a significantly faster rate than the benefits paid out to insured individuals. Data from DREES indicates that while contributions rose by 8.2%, benefits only increased by 5.4%.

For independent professionals and small business owners, evaluating insurance providers now requires looking beyond monthly premiums. Key factors for comparison include the redistribution rate and management fees. In 2024, management fees accounted for 18.8% of contributions, a slight decrease from 19.3% in 2023, meaning nearly one-fifth of premiums do not go toward medical care reimbursement.
