French health insurance reforms may impact physiotherapy costs by 2027

Effective sports rehabilitation requires a methodical approach to restore mobility, strength, and balance following an injury or surgery. This process, often managed by physiotherapists or specialized trainers, involves a progression from simple joint range-of-motion exercises to stability, proprioception, and dynamic movements. The physical environment where these exercises occur is also critical, as organized spaces help ensure a safe and structured return to activity.

In France, potential changes to health insurance policies could impact the cost of such rehabilitation by 2027. To control rising expenditures, the National Health Insurance is considering reforms to how physiotherapy sessions are funded. Proposed measures include capping the number of reimbursed sessions based on specific pathologies, implementing a flat-rate payment system, or progressively reducing reimbursement levels throughout a treatment course.
