French heritage sites report summer tourism figures

French heritage sites reported significant summer visitor numbers. Les Hautes-Mynes in Le Thillot welcomed over 11,000 visitors during July and August, a figure nearly identical to the previous year. The site offered various activities, including evening mine tours, storytelling, and biodiversity events such as the International Bat Night.

Mont-Saint-Michel saw approximately 842,000 visitors between July 1 and August 31, 2026, representing a 5.9% decrease compared to the summer of 2025. However, the abbey itself maintained stable attendance with 426,000 visitors. Trends indicate a shift in visiting hours, with increased arrivals in the early morning and late evening, while midday attendance declined. The site is transitioning into a cultural autumn season featuring concerts, exhibitions, and nature walks.
