French intelligence report alleges Djibouti-based supply network for Houthi militants
A report by the French intelligence publication Africa Intelligence alleges the existence of a maritime supply network used to transport weapon components and spare parts to Houthi militants in Yemen. The network reportedly utilizes sea routes originating from Djibouti and passing through the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
Citing documents attributed to Yemeni intelligence, the report identifies several entities and vessels involved. Al-Waha Trading is accused of operating outside official commercial registries to ship parts via boats. Additionally, the LNG vessel ‘Nooh Gas’ is reported to be using a fraudulent Botswana flag while moving regularly between Djibouti and the Houthi-controlled port of Ras Issa.
The report further alleges that companies linked to the Djiboutian presidency, such as 77 Logistics—purportedly owned by the President’s brother—have facilitated the movement of military supplies. The investigation also suggests strategic cooperation between the Houthis and the Somali militant group Al-Shabaab to transport drones and explosives.
These findings have raised concerns in Washington and Paris regarding the potential exploitation of Djibouti’s ports and maritime corridors, despite Djibouti’s official stance of supporting the internationally recognized Yemeni government and Saudi Arabia.
