French intelligence warns of potential Russian attacks by autumn 2027

French intelligence has moved forward its assessment regarding a potential major Russian attack, identifying autumn 2027 as a possible timeframe. This timeline is an acceleration from previous estimates that pointed toward 2030.

Potential targets for such an attack include critical infrastructure such as power plants, electricity grids, telecommunications networks, railways, and drinking water facilities. Alain Christienne, a former deputy director of French military intelligence, noted that a hypothetical attack could involve explosive-laden drones targeting sites linked to France’s defense industry, adding that the country currently lacks the full capacity to protect against such scenarios.

In response to intensifying hybrid threats, President Emmanuel Macron has met with political leaders to discuss defense strategies. The French government is preparing a plan to protect critical infrastructure and the defense industrial base from cyberattacks and drone strikes. Additionally, regional prefects have been tasked with establishing security teams comprising local police, intelligence services, the military, and emergency services to bolster domestic defense.
