French labor market reports show rising salaries and manager-employee disconnect
Recent studies in France highlight shifting dynamics in the labor market regarding compensation and employee motivation. According to the Robert Half 2027 Salary Guide, average salaries are projected to rise by 1.4%, with the IT and Digital sector seeing the highest increase at 1.9%. The report notes that 40% of recruiters are prepared to exceed initial budgets to secure specialized talent, particularly in areas such as cybersecurity, data analysis, and AI expertise.
Complementing these findings, the 2026 HR Barometer by Forvis Mazars and Comet reveals a significant disconnect between managers and employees. While 65% of managers believe their teams are primarily motivated by salary, only 33% of employees agree, with 37% prioritizing personal fulfillment. The study also identifies gaps in how engagement is perceived: 58% of employees feel they exceed expectations, compared to only 36% of managers who recognize this effort. These misunderstandings contribute to retention challenges, as more than one in four employees is considering leaving their company within the next two years.
