French leaders Tondelier, Glucksmann push X, TikTok bans over election interference

Marine Tondelier, the Ecologist party’s national secretary and a candidate for the 2027 French presidential election, said she would seek to suspend the social‑media platform X in France if it fails to comply with European rules. She warned that the platform, owned by Elon Musk, could be used for foreign interference in French democratic processes.

Euro‑deputy Raphaël Glucksmann echoed the call, urging that both X and TikTok be forced to respect EU regulations and be sanctioned for any breaches. Glucksmann cited recent Russian disinformation campaigns targeting French politicians, including attacks on Gabriel Attal and himself, and warned that similar tactics could affect the upcoming election. He stated, "Ce que je demande, c'est qu'on n'ait pas la main qui tremble face à Elon Musk et X," and stressed the need for firm action against platforms that enable such interference.
