French left-wing parties announce 2027 presidential primary details
The Socialist Party (PS) and Place publique have detailed the procedures for a left-wing primary to select a candidate for the 2027 presidential election. Registration for the primary is open until October 5. The first round of voting is scheduled for October 9 and 10, with a potential second round on October 16 and 17.
To participate, party members must be up to date with dues and registered on electoral lists. Non-members can vote by joining one of the represented parties or by registering on the ‘Choisir 2027’ platform by the October 5 deadline, paying a fee of €15 (or a €10 social rate). The process is being managed by an external provider and will be monitored by a bailiff to ensure anonymity for sympathizers.
Internal divisions persist regarding potential alliances with La France Insoumise (LFI). Candidates such as Raphaël Glucksmann and Jérôme Guedj have expressed opposition to any agreement with LFI, arguing it could alienate voters and hinder the ability to defeat the far right. Conversely, Olivier Faure, Ségolène Royal, and Emmanuel Maurel have declined to rule out future cooperation with LFI, emphasizing the need for left-wing unity to counter Marine Le Pen.
