French left-wing parties organize for October primary

Candidates from the non-Melenchonist left are organizing for a social-democratic primary in France, scheduled for October. The Socialist Party (PS) and Place publique have agreed on the modalities for a ‘closed’ primary, which will require a 15-euro participation fee.

Raphaël Glucksmann, representing Place publique, is currently viewed as a leading contender. Yannick Jadot has expressed enthusiastic support for Glucksmann, stating he will help prepare the first 100 days of an ecological emergency state. Meanwhile, other figures such as Jérôme Guedj and Philippe Brun are actively campaigning for the necessary endorsements to participate in the process.

The primary comes at a time when the National Rally leads opinion polls and Jean-Luc Mélenchon remains a significant force, prompting calls for unity among the various left-wing factions to consolidate their influence ahead of the presidential election.
