French legal disputes involve Barbara Lefebvre and Valérie Pécresse

French commentator Barbara Lefebvre is facing legal proceedings before the 17th correctional chamber of the Paris Judicial Court. The prosecution follows complaints regarding comments she made during an I24 News broadcast in February 2025. Lefebvre had suggested that the Gaza Strip should be “emptied” and that civilians there were as responsible as Hamas and Islamic Jihad. The investigation focuses on charges of public provocation to hatred, discrimination, or violence based on origin or religion, as well as the public apology for crimes against humanity.

In a separate legal dispute, Valérie Pécresse, President of the Île-de-France region, has filed a defamation complaint against La France Insoumise (LFI) deputy Louis Boyard. The conflict arose following a protest at a high school on September 25, where Boyard accused Pécresse of racism and class contempt. Pécresse has rejected the accusations, characterizing Boyard's remarks as intolerable in the public arena.
