French Local Heritage Projects Spotlight Medieval Commandery and 1960s Coastal Vacations

The Groupe de recherches archéologiques et historiques de Coutras (GRAHC) documented the 1320 land‑survey that defined the boundaries of the former Commanderie du Chalaure, an Order of Malta stronghold in the present‑day commune of Eglisottes‑et‑Chalaures. The study identified existing medieval boundary stones and added three new markers, reconstructing a 780‑hectare area and illustrating the site's historic control of the Paris‑Bordeaux route.

Separately, Objectif Gard revisited the summer holidays of 1964 at the seaside town of Grau‑du‑Roi using photographs by Hervé Collignon, preserved in the municipal archives of Nîmes. The archive series shows families enjoying beach volleyball, sand‑castle contests, horse rides, and the local fish market, offering a vivid glimpse of mid‑20th‑century coastal leisure in the Gard region.
