French local officials address cybersecurity and wildfire risks
Local officials in France are increasing vigilance regarding strategic threats to public services. During the 24th Meeting of Isère Intercommunalities, experts highlighted the rising scale of cyberattacks targeting local authorities. Data indicates that one in ten local governments reported a cyberattack in 2024, with 45% of those affected unable to identify the source. Experts emphasized that digital security is no longer a purely technical issue but a matter of public policy requiring political leadership, data management, and crisis preparation.
In a separate discussion organized by the Association of Mayors of Var, stakeholders addressed the lessons learned from the 2026 fires in the Var region. The roundtable focused on strengthening territorial resilience and the essential role of mayors in prevention and anticipation. The event underscored the need for close coordination between elected officials, emergency services, and state agencies to manage wildfire risks through improved land management and collective mobilization.
