French lyricist Jean‑Paul Dréau dies at 73
Jean‑Paul Dréau, a French songwriter born in Oran on 12 June 1953, died on Monday at the age of 73 after a sudden pulmonary embolism. His family announced the death on Tuesday; his wife Annick Dréau‑Lemetayer Benchetrit posted a final photograph of him on Facebook and wrote “Mon soleil s’est éteint”.
Dréau was best known for the 1980s hit “Le coup de soleil”, performed by Richard Cocciante. He also wrote songs for Michel Polnareff, Hervé Vilard, Bibie and Chimène Badi, and Elton John later covered his composition “J'veux de la tendresse”. The music community, including former AZ label head Valéry Zeitoun, paid tribute on social media.
