French markets face volatility amid budget concerns and sector divergence

The French stock market is experiencing significant volatility and divergence. On one hand, certain sectors and currencies are hitting annual highs, with France Tourisme seeing a massive 616.42% increase over the past year. Other notable gains include Ch. Fer Departement and several currency pairs involving the US Dollar.

Conversely, many small and mid-cap companies are facing severe corrections. Stocks such as Euroapi, Realites, and Nexity have seen substantial annual declines. This divergence highlights a stark contrast between spectacular rebounds and deep market corrections.

The CAC 40 has also faced downward pressure due to rising long-term interest rates in France, driven by high inflation and concerns regarding the 2027 national budget. Analysts at LBP AM have expressed skepticism toward the government's 2027 growth forecasts, suggesting that the planned budgetary tightening may be insufficient to return public finances to a sustainable trajectory. There are concerns that the public deficit could remain above 5% of GDP due to political uncertainty and economic factors.
