French Mayors' Association launches donation drive for wildfire‑hit regions

After weeks of devastating wildfires that have burned thousands of hectares in the Var department and other French regions, the Association of Mayors of France (AMF) announced a nationwide donation campaign to support reconstruction and resilience efforts. The campaign invites municipalities, inter‑communal bodies, businesses, and private individuals to contribute, with all proceeds earmarked for rebuilding homes, re‑vegetating forests, restoring natural spaces and assisting displaced families.

The regional association of mayors in the Pays de Retz (Loire‑Atlantique) also pledged €2,000 to the AMF’s direct support fund, underscoring solidarity with the victims and with firefighters, security forces and volunteers who fought the blazes. Funds will be allocated by the AMF in coordination with local authorities and institutional partners to ensure transparent and effective use for long‑term recovery projects.
