French mayors crack down on disruptive wedding processions
In Saint-Priest, France, the mayor, Gilles Gascon, deployed municipal and state police to intervene in a wedding procession following reports of unacceptable behavior. The intervention was prompted by a long convoy of vehicles that blocked traffic and caused disturbances, including honking and passengers sitting on car windows.
As a result of the police action, 87 fines were issued, totaling 10,945 euros in penalties and 242 penalty points. Mayor Gascon stated that while weddings are welcome in Saint-Priest, inappropriate and dangerous behavior is not.
In a similar incident in Nice, Mayor Éric Ciotti took more drastic measures by canceling a wedding ceremony scheduled to take place in Phoenix Park. He cited the wedding convoy blocking a highway and committing numerous traffic violations as the reason for the cancellation, emphasizing that weddings do not grant permission for dangerous driving.
