French media landscape faces shifts in pluralism and journalistic practices
The French media landscape is undergoing significant shifts as conservative movements seek to influence media tools ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The Observatoire du journalisme (Ojim), an independent organization that has monitored media ownership and journalist-power connections for 14 years, is currently facing financial difficulties and relies on private donations to maintain its operations.
In a separate effort to address public fatigue with news, journalists from Mediacités participated in a year-long training program funded by the Solution Journalism Network. The program focused on transitioning from “breaking news” to “bridging news,” utilizing conflict mediation techniques to provide more nuanced and constructive reporting rather than contributing to societal fragmentation.
