French municipalities invest in school climate adaptation
Municipalities in France are implementing various energy renovation and climate adaptation projects in local schools to combat rising temperatures and improve thermal comfort.
In Oloron Sainte-Marie, the Navarrot school is undergoing a renaturation process. Following a request from parents, the municipality is investing over €60,000 to convert a paved courtyard into a natural space, recovering 60% of the ground as natural soil. This follows previous structural improvements, such as external thermal insulation and improved roof and door insulation, to address climate change impacts.
In Moissac, the city has invested over €1.1 million in energy renovations for several educational establishments, including the Pierre Chabrié and Camille Delthil schools. The works, which are over 80% complete, focus on replacing joinery, improving insulation, and installing air treatment units. These upgrades aim to better prepare students and staff for extreme heat periods caused by climate change.
