French National Assembly: LFI passes two legislative texts
During a reserved parliamentary day on October 29, 2026, deputies from La France Insoumise (LFI) saw two of their three proposed legislative texts pass in the French National Assembly. The successful measures concern land ownership in overseas territories and the conversion of student assistants for children with disabilities (AESH) into civil servant status.
A third text regarding the rights and support of children in social care (ASE) failed to reach a vote. LFI leader Mathilde Panot accused the Rassemblement National (RN) and its allies of using obstructionist tactics, including filing over 140 sub-amendments, to prevent the vote. RN deputy Kevin Mauvieux denied these claims, stating the group was attempting to correct deficiencies in the proposed text.
The day of debate concluded at midnight, highlighting ongoing procedural tensions between the left-wing opposition and right-wing groups in the assembly.
