French National Assembly reviews Nutri-Score mandate petition

The French National Assembly's Social Affairs Commission is set to examine a petition seeking to make the Nutri-Score nutritional labeling system mandatory on food packaging. The petition, which gathered over 100,000 signatures, was originally submitted in November 2025 by specialists including epidemiologist Serge Hercberg.

Currently, Nutri-Score labeling is voluntary in France. Proponents of the mandate argue that the voluntary approach is insufficient to ensure transparent, accessible, and understandable nutritional information that helps consumers make healthier dietary choices. Deputy Sandrine Runel is advocating for the petition to be debated within the commission to advance its legislative progress. Additionally, cross-party amendments have been proposed within the Social Security financing bill to support this transition toward mandatory labeling.
