French National Assembly to debate comprehensive sexual violence law

The French National Assembly is preparing to examine a comprehensive legislative proposal, known as the ‘loi intégrale’, aimed at combating sexual violence against women and children. The bill consists of 69 articles designed to address the entire spectrum of violence, from prevention and detection to investigation and judicial proceedings.

National Assembly President Yaël Braun-Pivet expressed confidence in the bill's adoption, noting that it already has the support of 243 deputies from various political groups. The text, introduced by Socialist deputy Céline Thiébault-Martinez, was revised following input from the Council of State and incorporates 140 measures proposed by a coalition of feminist and child rights associations.

The legislation aims to eliminate legal gaps by covering multiple sectors, including justice, health, education, employment, and digital spaces. While the bill is expected to be debated in the chamber starting in late September or October, Braun-Pivet noted concerns that the 2027 budget debates could potentially delay parliamentary activity through December.
