French officials call for firm response to urban violence and vandalism
Recent acts of urban violence and vandalism in France have prompted local officials to call for stricter measures and state intervention. In Salon de Provence, Mayor Nicolas Isnard reported that individuals set fire to the l’Empéri high school, causing serious damage to the building and endangering staff living on-site. In response to the escalating situation, Isnard has proposed a temporary, time-limited ban on social media access for minors during periods of serious public disorder. He has contacted the Minister of Justice and the Minister of the Interior to seek legislative initiatives regarding this measure.
In Chantilly, Mayor Nicolas Moula condemned acts of destruction involving a vandalized bus and destroyed urban furniture. Reports indicate that the perpetrators may be from outside the city. The unrest led to students being locked inside their school for safety while alarms were repeatedly triggered. Moula criticized long-standing policies of leniency, arguing that the state must restore order and fulfill its duty to protect citizens and public property.
