French parliamentarians propose law to safeguard digital subscription sharing

On 23 July, French deputies Mickaël Bouloux (Ille‑et‑Vilaine) and Pierrick Courbon (Loire) introduced a bill to enshrine the principle of free disposition of digital subscriptions. The legislation would set rules for sharing access to video‑on‑demand, music‑streaming and e‑book services, targeting restrictive terms that some platforms impose based on vague notions such as “family”, “household” or “same address”.\n\nThe proposal argues that multi‑user subscription models—such as Nextory’s Premium and Family plans allowing up to four profiles—constitute legal group purchases that help consumers save hundreds of euros a month. By safeguarding these co‑subscription rights, the bill aims to protect purchasing power, reduce contractual uncertainty, and support a legitimate alternative to piracy. It follows the framework of the 2014 Hamon consumer law.
