French platforms to begin collecting social security contributions

Starting October 1, several digital platforms, including Uber Eats, Wecasa, Les Sherpas, Student Pop, Extracadabra, Truckrs, and Mon Spécialiste Auto, will begin collecting social security contributions directly from self-employed workers. Under this voluntary phase, platforms will calculate contributions based on rates provided by Urssaf, deduct them from earnings, and remit them monthly. This removes the requirement for independent contractors to declare their turnover to Urssaf manually.

This mechanism is intended to simplify administrative tasks and ensure social rights, such as sickness benefits and retirement quarters, are secured by preventing missed deadlines. While the rates and scales remain consistent with standard regulations, the change represents a significant shift in how independent workers manage their finances. This pre-payment system is scheduled to become mandatory for all matching platforms operating in France by January 1, 2027.
