French police officers accused of selling sensitive data on Snapchat
The Inspection Générale de la Police Nationale (IGPN) has alerted authorities regarding police officers selling sensitive data via Snapchat. Investigations reveal that officers have been using professional terminals, such as the NEO device, to access and trade restricted files.
Specific databases compromised include the File of Wanted Persons (FRP), the Criminal Record Processing system (TAJ), and the Vehicle Registration System (SIV). These leaks allow unauthorized individuals to locate targets, verify criminal histories, or identify vehicle owners through license plate numbers.
This incident is part of a broader trend of integrity breaches; in 2025, the IGPN was tasked with handling 235 cases of integrity violations, many of which involved the illicit consultation of official files by active-duty agents.
