Emmanuel Macron faces criticism over jet ski photos during French wildfires

French President Emmanuel Macron is facing intense criticism from political opponents following the publication of photos in Paris Match showing him riding a jet ski at his summer residence, Fort de Brégançon. The images, which also depict him engaging in water sports like foil surfing, were released during a period of severe heatwaves and devastating wildfires across France.

Left-wing leaders have condemned the publication as tone-deaf and disconnected from the struggles of the French people. Olivier Faure, first secretary of the Socialist Party, questioned the message sent by the images, while Greens leader Marine Tondelier described the situation as an ‘apocalyptic summer’ for citizens. Communist Senator Pierre Ouzoulias further criticized the display as ‘indecent’ given the national crisis.

The Élysée Palace responded by stating that the photographs were unauthorized and part of a recurring pattern of ‘stolen’ images taken during the president's summer breaks over the last nine years. Despite the controversy, the magazine described the stay as work-oriented, noting that Macron maintains an office at the fort to continue managing international dossiers and conducting meetings.
