French political figures face separate legal challenges
In France, two distinct legal developments involving high-profile political figures are unfolding. Jordan Bardella is engaged in a legal dispute with the news outlet Mediapart. The outlet claims to have authenticated antisemitic writings attributed to Bardella from the start of his political career. Bardella denies authorship, alleging the documents are forgeries, and has initiated criminal proceedings for forgery and use of forgery to trigger an investigation into the authenticity of the claims.
Separately, the anti-corruption association Anticor is seeking a trial for Alexis Kohler, the former chief of staff at the Élysée and current deputy general manager at Société Générale. Anticor is requesting that judges refer Kohler to trial for illegal interest-taking regarding his family ties to the shipping company MSC. This request comes despite the National Financial Prosecutor's Office (PNF) recommending a dismissal of the case. Anticor continues to act as a civil party to ensure investigations into the matter proceed.
