French Senate: Mélanie Vogel elected head of ecologist group

Mélanie Vogel has been elected as the new president of the Ecologist, Solidarity and Territories group in the French Senate. A member of Les Écologistes since 2010, Vogel succeeds Guillaume Gontard, who had held the position since 2020.

Following the recent senatorial elections, the group also made a decision regarding the integration of Gabriel Amard, an elected official from La France insoumise (LFI). The group declined to welcome Amard, citing a lack of necessary consensus. This decision contrasts with the acceptance of Marc Péré, a diverse left mayor from Haute-Garonne, who had received support from both LFI and Les Écologistes and had committed to joining the group.
