French Polynesia allocates 70 million CFP francs for addiction prevention

The government of French Polynesia plans to grant a 70 million CFP franc subsidy to the Fédération citoyenne polynésienne de lutte contre les drogues et la toxicomanie. This funding, intended for the 2026 fiscal year, aims to strengthen prevention and support efforts for individuals facing addictions, specifically targeting the use of ice.

Established in March 2025, the federation focuses on community-based outreach to reach individuals who do not spontaneously seek help. This initiative is designed to complement medical and psychological support provided by the addiction prevention and care service within the Mental Health Pole. The subsidy represents 64% of the total amount requested by the federation and is funded through the Addiction Prevention and Combat Fund.
