French Polynesia police report over 900 speeding violations

Police in French Polynesia have recorded over 900 speeding violations since the beginning of the year. Recent enforcement operations by the Direction territoriale de la police nationale (DTPN) in Papeete identified several significant infractions, including a vehicle traveling at 133 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

Tamatea Tuheiava, head of the territorial public security service at the DTPN, noted that speeds frequently exceed 110 km/h in certain sectors. While these infractions are currently classified as fifth-class contraventions in French Polynesia, offenders face potential legal proceedings, fines of up to 180,000 francs, driver's license suspensions, and mandatory road safety awareness training.
