French Polynesia to launch digital Price Observatory in 2026
The government of French Polynesia has announced the upcoming launch of a new “Observatoire des prix” (Price Observatory), a digital platform designed to help consumers compare retail prices. The project, which includes both a website and a mobile application, is expected to be officially launched by the end of 2026.
Unlike the previous “Panier Futé” application launched in 2022, which relied on monthly manual updates by the Direction générale des affaires économiques (DGAE), the new system will utilize real-time data. The platform will receive automatic transmissions from food retailers with floor spaces exceeding 300 square meters.
Key features will allow users to compare total prices and unit prices (per kilogram, liter, or unit), locate essential goods (PPN) and organic products, and check in-store availability. The tool will also include geolocation services to help users find the most competitive prices nearby and build personalized shopping baskets.
