French President Macron says Iran attacks breach pact, urges continued US‑Iran talks

At the NATO summit in Ankara, French President Emmanuel Macron described Iran's recent missile strikes as a serious mistake that violated the agreement Tehran had signed. He said the United States and Iran would continue their discussions despite the heightened tension and called for calm, patience and steady management of the situation.

Macron noted that President Donald Trump made no complaints about allies in the closed‑door session, contrasting with earlier public remarks. He expressed doubt that the United States would take control of Greenland and reaffirmed alliance rules that prevent member states from attacking each other. The French leader also said France is positively reviewing the possible sale of the Franco‑Italian SAMP‑T air‑defence system to Turkey, with technical negotiations ongoing between France, Italy and Turkey.
