French property owners to face higher land‑tax bills in 2026

Around 33 million French property owners will receive their 2026 land‑tax (taxe foncière) notices. The average bill is expected to rise from €1,117 in 2025 to about €1,125, reflecting a statutory minimum increase of 0.8% that follows the automatic revaluation of cadastral rental values based on November’s inflation rate.

Previous annual rises were 7.1% in 2023, 3.9% in 2024 and 1.7% in 2025. Local authorities may add further rate adjustments, meaning some owners could see much higher charges than the national average. A second increase is already anticipated for 2027 amid ongoing inflation pressures.
