French regions implement new low-carbon public transport plans
Regional authorities in France are implementing new mobility plans focused on decarbonization and expanded service. In La Roche-sur-Yon, the Impulsyon network is undergoing a major reorganization for 2026. Key updates include the introduction of a new Line 8 to improve connectivity, expanded night bus services (N1 and N2) running Thursday through Saturday, and free night bus travel on Saturday evenings. The municipality aims for a 100% decarbonized fleet by 2032, with BioGNV and hydrogen buses expected to enter service by 2026. Additionally, a €90,000 program has been established to teach cycling skills to primary school students.
In the Morbihan region, a new biogas-powered bus has begun operating on the route between Guer and Ploërmel. The 22-seat vehicle features a 600 km range, which local authorities state is sufficient for daily operations. The biogas is produced via methanization at a local farm near Rennes, creating a short-circuit energy model that emits six to eight times less CO2 than fossil fuels.
