French retailers anticipate year-end sales growth amid cautious consumer spending

French businesses are preparing for the year-end shopping season with a mix of optimism and caution. According to a Shopify study involving 1,000 business leaders and 2,000 consumers, 75% of companies anticipate an increase in sales during the period from Black Friday to Christmas.

Despite this optimism, businesses face challenges such as rising costs, increased competition, and a cost-of-living crisis that impacts consumer demand. Approximately 55% of consumers report that the current economic climate, including inflation and interest rates, negatively affects their holiday purchasing plans. Rather than stopping consumption entirely, shoppers are becoming more deliberate, seeking better value through product quality, durability, and loyalty rewards.

Additionally, the transition from social commerce platforms like TikTok Shop to independent online stores is a growing trend for entrepreneurs. While platforms like TikTok offer easy access to large audiences, moving to a dedicated e-commerce site allows for greater brand control and customization, though it requires entrepreneurs to manage more complex logistics, including payments, inventory, and shipping.
