French rugby player Cléa Menier dies after head injury

The French rugby community is in mourning following the death of 17-year-old Cléa Menier, a player for Union du Bassin Marmandais. The accident occurred during an under-18 national division match against Agen Agglo Rugby in Marmande on Saturday, October 17.

According to reports, Menier sustained a significant blow to the head during the game, which led to a cardiorespiratory arrest. Although emergency responders were able to perform resuscitation efforts on the pitch, she remained in critical condition after being transported to Pellegrin Hospital in Bordeaux, where she subsequently passed away.

The French Rugby Federation (FFR) has announced that an investigation will be conducted to clarify the exact circumstances of the accident. In response to the tragedy, the FFR has established a psychological support network for those affected.

Tributes are planned across the sport this weekend, including a minute of applause before amateur and professional matches throughout France. Additionally, members of the French women's national team will wear black armbands during their upcoming match against the Black Ferns.
