French savers explore term accounts as Livret A yields remain at 1.7%

French savers are increasingly exploring alternatives to the Livret A as its net interest rate has remained at 1.7% since August 2026. While the Livret A remains the most popular savings product with approximately 58 million accounts open as of late 2025, its real yield has faced challenges relative to inflation.

Term accounts (comptes à terme) are gaining traction as an alternative, with some banks offering rates up to 3% in September. Unlike the Livret A, which allows for immediate fund availability, term accounts require investors to commit their capital for a fixed duration. Early withdrawal from these accounts typically incurs penalties or reduced interest rates.

Other popular financial products in France include life insurance (assurance vie), which had over 43.5 million contracts open by the end of 2025, as well as the LEP, LDDS, PEA, and securities accounts.
