French school support staff call for nationwide strikes in June

Union federations representing education support personnel have announced a coordinated strike across France. Assistants d'Elèves en Situation de Handicap (AESH) are set to strike on 9 June, protesting the Ministry of Education's proposal to limit permanent civil‑service status to only 10‑20 % of their workforce. The call is backed by the FSU, UNSA, CGT, SUD, CFDT and SNALC, which argue that the plan threatens job security for tens of thousands of largely female workers.

In the Vosges department, unions have also urged Assistants d’Éducation (AED) to mobilise on 2 June. The AED, historically called "pions," are demanding better pay, the right to permanent contracts, professional recognition and an increase in staffing levels. Both actions reflect broader grievances over precarious working conditions and insufficient staffing in French schools.
