French singer Patrick Bruel detained in Paris on multiple rape accusations, concerts canceled
Patrick Bruel, a 67‑year‑old French singer and actor, was placed in police custody in Paris on June 8 as French prosecutors opened an investigation into rape, sexual assault and harassment allegations. The cases involve up to 13 alleged victims and span incidents reported from 1997 through 2012 in France and Belgium, with the prosecutor seeking an indictment and pre‑trial detention.
Bruel has denied all accusations, stating he will cooperate fully with the authorities. In response to the allegations, he has cancelled most scheduled performances, including upcoming shows in Montreal and his participation in the charitable festival Les Enfoirés.
