Patrick Bruel faces renewed sexual assault probes amid French investigations and concert cancellations

French authorities have opened new investigations into singer Patrick Bruel following a series of sexual‑assault accusations. Television presenter Flavie Flament filed a formal complaint alleging that, at age 16 in 1991, Bruel drugged her with tea, caused a blackout and then forced sexual activity. She recounted the episode in a live RTL interview, describing waking to find Bruel “remontant son pantalon”.

Bruel denies the allegations, asserting the relationship was consensual and that he never forced anyone. His lawyer has tried to minimise the age gap, claiming Bruel appeared younger at the time. The French prosecutor in Nanterre has consolidated dozens of complaints – totaling at least ten formal filings in France and additional accusations in Belgium – and the investigation continues despite the passage of time and claims of prescription.

Public pressure has intensified: several French mayors have urged Bruel to cancel upcoming concerts, and shows in Quebec and Belgium have been called off. A petition signed by more than 25 000 people calls for his performances to be halted until the legal process concludes. The case remains a high‑profile criminal matter with ongoing legal and cultural ramifications.
