French singer Patrick Bruel placed under judicial supervision, cancels summer tour

French pop star Patrick Bruel is under formal investigation for sexual‑violence allegations in four cases dating from 2008 to 2019, while he also holds assisted‑witness status in four additional proceedings. After 48 hours in police custody, a judge at the Nanterre tribunal released him but imposed judicial supervision.

Under the supervision Bruel may not leave French territory, may not contact the alleged victims or their families, and is barred from visiting their homes or massage parlors. He must prove he is receiving psychological counselling and post a €500 000 bail. The prosecution has ten days to appeal the decision.

Bruel’s lawyer, Fanny Colin, said, “En nueve expedientes se habían previsto cargos formales contra el Sr. Patrick Bruel… De estos, los jueces instructores decidieron colocarle bajo investigación formal en cuatro de ellos y otorgarle el estatuto de testigo asistido en otros cuatro.” As a result of the legal constraints, the singer cancelled all scheduled summer‑festival concerts, postponing performances until September.
