French singer‑artist Tristan (Pascal Dequatremare) dies at 68
Pascal Dequatremare, known by his stage name Tristan, died on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, the day of his 68th birthday. The former pop singer and painter passed away in Pau, Pyrénées‑Atlantiques, France, after a rapid‑progressing cancer.
Tristan rose to fame in 1988 with the hit single “Bonne, bonne humeur ce matin,” whose video was directed by filmmaker Mathieu Kassovitz and featured actor Vincent Cassel. Earlier in his career he co‑founded the artist collective Les Musulmans fumants, played in the punk band Guilty Razors, and briefly hosted a morning show on the French TV channel M6 before focusing on painting.
His death was confirmed by his artistic agent Stéphane Mortier and close friend Anne Israël.
