French Social Affairs Commission rejects employer contribution cuts

The French Social Affairs Commission has adopted an amendment that removes a provision intended to reduce certain employer contribution exemptions. This move, proposed by the Droite Républicaine, is estimated by the government to have eliminated 3.7 billion euros in potential revenue for the Social Security system.

Proponents of the amendment, such as MP Justine Gruet, argued that reducing these exemptions would increase labor costs, potentially harming employment, recruitment, and economic competitiveness. Conversely, Socialist Party members criticized the decision, with MP Sandrine Runel describing the loss of revenue as ‘consternante’. The opposition argued that the decision favors corporations at the expense of social financing and places a burden on retirees and insured individuals.
