French social associations launch mobilization over funding crisis
Social and medico-social associations in France have launched a national mobilization titled “Et si nous arrêtions vraiment?” (What if we really stopped?) running from October 12 to 17, 2026. The movement, initiated by Uniopss and supported by groups such as Collectif Handicaps, aims to alert authorities to the critical financial fragility facing the solidarity sector.
Reports indicate that public funding for social solidarity is declining even as social needs increase. According to a survey by the Fédération des acteurs de la solidarité (FAS), one-third of associations are at risk of disappearing due to insufficient cash flow. Furthermore, approximately 48% of organizations in the sector have already been forced to reduce or close at least one activity due to a lack of resources.
