French Southern and Antarctic Lands logistical mission begins

The supply ship Marion Dufresne has departed for a major logistical rotation to the French Southern and Antarctic Lands (TAAF). This mission facilitates the annual relief of district chiefs, scientific personnel, technical teams, and military staff stationed in the isolated Indian Ocean territories.

Olivier Poivre d'Arvor, the ambassador for the poles and maritime issues, is participating in this 30-day voyage. This marks his first visit to the TAAF, intended to observe field operations and engage with scientists regarding environmental preservation and biodiversity. The mission also serves a diplomatic purpose, highlighting France's maritime sovereignty and the strategic importance of the region's installations.

Accompanying the ambassador is Mickaël Quimbert, the prefect and superior administrator of the TAAF. The mission aims to showcase the unique biodiversity of these territories and support projects dedicated to the discovery and protection of these remote environments.
