French supermarket market sees surge in protein-enriched products
The French supermarket market is experiencing a significant surge in protein-enriched products, moving beyond traditional fitness supplements into mainstream grocery categories. Retailers and brands are expanding offerings to include protein-enriched pasta, bread, cereals, soups, salads, sandwiches, and prepared meals.
On September 14, frozen food specialist Picard launched a new line of protein-focused meals and snacks. This trend follows the earlier popularity of skyr and yogurt products. According to NielsenIQ, sales of hyper-protein, vitaminized, or immunity-boosting products rose by 12% in value and 15% in units in 2025, with the hyper-protein ultra-fresh segment increasing by 27%.
Data from Xerfi indicates the French hyper-protein market grew from approximately 70 million euros in 2020 to over 380 million euros in 2024. While categories like protein pasta remain emerging markets, consumer interest is spreading to diverse items such as cheese, sausages, and cereal bars.
