French supporters call for respect of national anthems

The official supporters group of the French national football team, ‘Les Irrésistibles Français’, has issued an appeal for respect regarding national anthems ahead of upcoming Nations League matches at the Stade de France.

The group is calling on fans to refrain from whistling during the anthems of Italy and Belgium during their respective matches against France. This request follows instances where the French anthem, ‘La Marseillaise’, was reportedly met with whistling during recent away matches in Turkey and Belgium.

In a statement, the supporters emphasized that while rivalry is expected during play, respect should be maintained before the match begins. They noted, ‘Respect the anthem of our opponents as we wish that La Marseillaise be respected everywhere the Blues play.’
