French tourist dies in paragliding accident on Mount Alpamayo
A 27-year-old French tourist, Pierre Jacky Marc, has died following a paragliding accident on Mount Alpamayo in the Cordillera Blanca region of Ancash, Peru.
According to reports, Marc and his compatriot, 31-year-old Thomas Max Michel, took off from a high-altitude area between 5,300 and 6,000 meters. During the descent, heavy fog and strong winds caused Marc to lose control and disappear from view. While Michel managed to land safely, he had to walk for approximately six hours to find a location with signal to report the disappearance.
A search operation was launched by the Peruvian National Police (PNP) and the Asociación de Socorro Andino Peruano (SAP), supported by a helicopter. Despite difficult weather conditions, rescue teams located Marc's body at an altitude of approximately 5,000 meters.
