Tarbes appoints new deputy to boost cleanliness, green spaces and animal welfare

Marielle Picard, a former entrepreneur, has been given a broad municipal portfolio in Tarbes, France, covering public cleanliness, green areas, overall quality of life and animal welfare. She will oversee the "Place Nette" initiative, which began on the Quai Estévenet in June and will be expanded to other neighborhoods, focusing on education and citizen responsibility rather than fines. Picard also plans to introduce a "flower permit" to encourage more vegetation in schools and public spaces, and is working on an inventory of the city’s biodiversity and trees. Her appointment follows mayor Pascal Claverie’s confidence in her experience as a manager in distribution and her commitment to ecological transition.

The new deputy aims to improve daily life for Tarbais residents by promoting cleaner streets, greener environments and better treatment of animals, using pedagogical approaches and encouraging community participation.
