French travelers shift to farm stays and off‑beat destinations in 2026

A recent Expedia Group report shows that 84 % of French travelers are interested in farm stays, with bookings for rural accommodations up about 300 % as tourists seek calm, nature and authentic experiences. The same trend is reflected in health‑related research that links green environments and animal contact to reduced stress and better sleep.

Data from eSIM provider Airalo indicates that the destinations gaining the most interest among French holiday‑makers for summer 2026 are South Korea (+210 %), Algeria (+205 %) and Morocco (+165 %). Peru also posted the largest percentage increase (+299 %). Travelers are moving away from crowded beach resorts toward cultural immersion, sustainable accommodations and less‑touristed regions.

The combined findings suggest a broader re‑evaluation of leisure travel in France, with a focus on well‑being, local culture and reduced overtourism.
